As we head into the middle part of Canberra’s 3 stages of winter (Early Winter, Deep Winter, Enduring Winter), welcome to our 2022 Winter Newsletter. Coming to you from our recently refurbished Distillery Door where we have dialed up the elegance and warmth.
We’ve had to be patient through lots of delays and frustrations, and there are still a few finishing touches to complete, but our winter customers have been enjoying our extensively refurbished Distillery Door. We have graduated from the warehouse vibe to contemporary cocktail bar. If you haven’t been lately, then do drop in to experience our cosy, more intimate and comfortable spaces. It’s a great spot to while away a Winter afternoon.
It’s certainly been a busy time since our last newsletter was published just before Christmas 2021. We have updated our website so it is worth a visit to explore our expanded retail offerings and Distillery Door experiences. But whilst you are here, check out a snapshot of Big River Distilling activities during 2022.
In February we partnered with a national distributor called Joval Wine Group who is taking Big River Australia wide – from Perth to North Queensland and across the East Coast including Tasmania. Joval has two portfolios, Mezzanine The Fine Wine Specialist and Red+White, and is a family owned company. The Big River team have valued connecting with the terrific bunch of Joval salespeople all around Australia. We are proud to be represented by them and honoured they have chosen Big River as the only spirits brand to include in their listings.
Along with so many others, Big River is grateful that lockdowns are now a distant memory. We’ve been busy hitting the festivals and so far in 2022 we’ve been sharing our wares at; Melbourne Gin Palooza, Sydney Gin Palooza, Indie Spirits Melbourne, and both the Melbourne & Sydney Good Food & Wine Shows.
And we’re not done yet. We have the rest of the 2022 calendar mapped out with festivals including Indie Spirits Brisbane and Sydney, Perth Gin & Food Festival, Sydney Gin Festival, Hunter Valley Christmas Gin Festival, Canberra Gin Festival, Canberra Beer Fest and Whisky Live Singapore.
So many more new Big River devotees to convert!
This year we’ve been working very closely with the fantastic people at the Lotus Restaurant Group on a gin to match their cutting edge Asian cuisine. Lotus are a Sydney based restaurant group with six venues across the CBD, including the stunning Lotus Barangaroo, and one restaurant in Summer Hill. Each venue focuses on a particular regional Chinese cuisine. If you’re in Sydney you couldn’t find a better place for lunch or dinner.
Our gin has been created to complement Lotus’ contemporary approach to Asian cuisine, so we have included Chinese flavours including Mandarin and Five Spice. Release is scheduled next month, and just quietly, it’s an absolute banger of a gin. We’re super excited to hear how our customers respond to this new entrant to the Australian Gin scene. Stay tuned to our social media as to when it’s able to be purchased, only though Lotus Restaurants, online via the Big River website and on-site at our Distillery Door at Dairy Road Fyshwick.
